National Parks

There are 63 national parks. These are congressionally designated protected areas run by the National Park Service. They are notable for their natural beauty, geological features, recreation, and ecosystems. Most famous parks include Yellowstone, Yosemite, and the Grand Canyon. The largest park is called Wrangell-St. Elias Park & Preserve in Alaska at over 13.2 million acres (the same size as Yellowstone, Yosemite, and the country of Switzerland combined). The smallest is Hot Springs National Park in Arkansas at 5,550 acres. California has the most parks, at 9, and Alaska, at 8.
